Runner’s knee (patella-femoral syndrome) is one of those nagging pains that just does not seem to go away. Now, you don’t have to be a runner to have this type of knee pain, but it is common with runners. And let me tell you that unless you directly injured your knee from an impact or some other trauma, the chances are it’s not your knee that’s the issue.
But wait a minute?? I now what you are thinking… "it’s my knee that hurts, how can it not be my knee?"
Patellofemoral syndrome (a diagnosis that simply means ‘we don’t know why your knee hurts’) often occurs due to overuse. It leaves that dull, achy pain in the front of the knee…it’s hard to pinpoint an exact spot because it feels like it’s the whole front of the joint. You might even feel pain around the kneecap. Bending your knee is uncomfortable, going up and down hills make it worse, stairs aren’t easy, and running just is plain painful.
You’ve stopped going for your daily jog and are performing all the things below:
Let’s face it you’ve done everything. But the one thing you have not done is consult an expert in musculoskeletal pain. Physical Therapists are experts in helping people with acute and chronic muscle and joint pain.
A Physical Therapist will help you figure out the CAUSE of your pain.
I know from experience that the knee often just ‘goes along for the ride’ when the leg is moving. The foot and hip often are the culprit behind improper movement at the knee joint that result in repeated strain every step you take.
Wouldn’t it be great to figure out the CAUSE and get you back to running…or just getting out for a nice walk if that’s your form of exercise?
You don’t have to run away from therapy…or your pain.
At Body Evolution Physical Therapy & Wellness our goal is to get you back to running as soon as possible using individualized care with a focus on finding the CAUSE so your pain does not come back!!
