At Body Evolution we use a number of different approaches to help you get back to being pain-free and active.  One approach we use is called Neurokinetic Therapy.  Dr. Ryan has trained extensively with the founder, David Weinstock, and has had the privilege to act as a teaching assistant.

What is Neurokinetic Therapy and how can it help you?  Let’s find out...

Neurokinetic Therapy is an assessment technique that let’s the practitioner discover what patterns of movement are efficient or inefficient.  Inefficient patterns of movement can lead to or be the cause of your pain.  Here is a simple example.  Imagine you sprain your right ankle so severely you can barely walk for weeks.  The chances are you will not walk normally when you do.  Eventually, the ankle will heal, but your walking remains abnormal, even if a little.  This new movement pattern was important because it protected the injury, but now is not beneficial.  The problem is that your brain, subconsciously, remembers it did not feel good to put weight on the right ankle.  You may not have even noticed, but you now are putting more weight onto your left leg when you walk and do other activities.  Over time, your left knee begins to have pain.  This inefficient movement pattern is the cause of your left knee pain.  You may have tried everything to get rid of your knee pain, but nothing works because it’s your right ankle that needs the help.

Neurokinetic Therapy allows the practitioner to figure out those faulty movement patterns and help to correct them.  This is done by using something called muscle testing. A muscle test gives information to the brain about how that muscle or movement is being performed.  If it is faulty, or fails, it ‘lights up’ the areas of your brain that control movement.  Now, a new pattern is be shown to the brain to give it a better option of movement.  Some hands-on manual therapy techniques or specific stretches are used to change the old pattern to the new one. Then, through repetition this new pattern can be trained, sometimes very quickly.

Neurokinetic Therapy is a great assessment tool that can help you get back on the road to recovery often much faster than taking the path of conventional treatment approaches.
At Body Evolution, we pride ourselves in learning new, innovative techniques that we combine with tried and true methods that are the foundation of physical therapy.   If you think Neurokinetic Therapy can help you then reach out to us.  Give us a call and we can discuss how our therapy services, including Neurokinetic Therapy, can help you get back to being active again.
